Ovarian cancer is a malignant disease of an ovary or both ovaries. Currently around 8,000 women per year develop ovarian cancer. A familial predisposition is detected in 10% of cases. It is probable that hormonal causes may also play a role, and studies have shown that the long-term use of the » pill « reduces the risk of the disease significantly (around 60 percent).
Most ovarian tumours do not cause discomfort until very late in the development of the condition, as they can reach a considerable size before they affect other organs such as the urinary tract and the intestines. The symptoms are usually nonspecific: vague abdominal pain, foreign body sensation and any increase in body size caused by the tumour, despite simultaneous strong weight loss. Also bladder complaints and nonspecific symptoms such as bloating, fullness, or pain during bowel movement.
The tumour can be felt during a gynaecological examination and will show up by ultrasound through the vagina. Tumour markers, X-ray with contrast agent enema, and computed tomography (CT) will clarify the diagnosis. Since ovarian cancers occur more often as secondary tumours of other primary tumours such as breast or stomach, examinations are mostly undertaken in relation to these secondary tumours.
Recommended therapies for the treatment of ovarian cancer:
Whole body Hyperthermia
The healing effect of whole-body hyperthermia for patients with ovarian cancer is that we can very quickly bring the organism to high temperatures (up 40.5 °). This fast and high heating activates not only the immune system, but many degenerate cells of ovarian cancer are destroyed by the fast floods of heat. In addition to the damage or removal of the cancer cells, the whole-body hyperthermia activates the immune system significantly and does not burden the body. It triggers an immune cascade that multiplies and activates the white blood cells.
Loco regional Hyperthermia
Also the exclusively regional effective hyperthermia is recommended for ovarian cancer, during this treatment the affected region is quickly heated to high temperatures (40 up to 44 ° C). This heating activates the immune system. Also, many degenerated cells of ovarian cancer will be harmed or destroyed. In our day clinic at the Hyperthermia Center Hannover we offer this partial body hyperthermia depending on the diagnosis. Only damaged or degenerated tissue is overheated, which guarantees very gentle treatment to our patients.
IPT- Low Dose Chemotherapy
Patients with ovarian cancer can be successfully treated at the Hyperthermia Center Hannover with the IPT, which uses the blood sugar-lowering hormone to transport drugs such as chemotherapeutic agents better into tumor cells. Since the degenerated cells of the ovarian carcinoma have a higher basal metabolic rate than normal body cells, they are anxious to absorb sugar more quickly after a period of hypoglycemia. The mechanism takes place via so-called receptors. Since tumor cells in the ovarian have much more receptors than normal body cells, chemotherapy can therefore act more effectively on the malignant cells. As a result, the dosage of common chemotherapy protocols can be significantly reduced and thus the side effects are significantly reduced.
Infusions with high-dosage Vitamin C
At the Hyperthermia Center Hannover we treat patients with ovarian cancer successfully with high-doses of vitamin C. The so-called Ascorbic acid is the best known vitamin, – and the most important antioxidant, i.e. it intercepts harmful free radicals in the body and makes them harmless – and in this way prevents degeneration in the cells. Vitamin C is also essential for the immune system and various restructuring processes in the body. When vitamin C is given in a high dose, the treatment of ovarian cancer can be positively affected.
